We loved our house and did not expect to sell until we were ready to move to Montana, but this crazy hot real estate market changed our minds. Taking advantage of the spike in real estate value, meant we could own a mortgage-free home earlier than expected. Our record selling price was due to many factors, including low mortgage rates, record investment profits, families looking for larger homes, and low housing inventory. We knew we had to move extremely fast. In less than 3 weeks, we hired father and daughter team, Don and Keisha Moore of The Don Moore Team, prepared our house for market, and had a signed full price offer.
During this time we also needed to find another place to rent or buy. We put a lot of thought into this step, including – comparing rental costs to home ownership costs. In addition to properties the realtors shared with us, we also checked http://www.Realtor.com daily. We did online market research, as well as physically visiting properties and their surrounding areas.
We had a few must haves for our new place, but the most important one was being close to the beach. We looked from Stuart to Lake Worth and finally found three properties that warranted showings. A modern loft in downtown Lake Worth was really cool, but lacked a proper second bedroom (no egress window or closet) and didn’t have any green space. We also looked at two properties in Jupiter, both in the same community.
Because to wanted to “downsize” to a townhouse or condo, we were able to sell our old home and purchase at a much lower price. The condo and townhouse market has plenty of inventory and due to COVID19 has not seen the record spikes in prices. Jim and I are truly grateful to be in a position to take advantage of this market. But, we are also concerned that affordable homes and rentals are no longer available for our family, friends, and neighbors in our community. Drum roll, please…
We are delighted to share that we bought a 3/2.5 fixer in a desirable neighborhood, less than 1/2 mile walk to the beach. When I say fixer, I mean it needs a total renovation, including, new floors, a new kitchen, new bathrooms, paint, closets, etc. I am looking forward to using the Interior Design skills I learned in my recently completed NYIAD Interior Design course.
